Window company wants payment in full, upfront

I have recently been quoted maintenance and repair on my windows at a total of £5,000.
The company have said because this is a "small amount" they require payment in full and upfront.

This seems like a huge red flag to me. Can anybody give me advice?

No no no. Maintenance and repair at £5,000 is some repair. Have you had other quotes? Is scaffolding to be used? That would add a lot to a contract price.0

£5K is not a small amount for the vast majority of people.When I have windows fitted, the firm I'm using normally asks for a 20% deposit. The last round of works, didn't get asked for one.I'd suggest getting a few more quotes for the work as the figure given sounds excessive.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

what are you getting for 5k ? pay half tops and the rest on completion . if theyre doing repairs and maintenance theyre not even paying out for much normally

Walk away. At best, they'll take the money and then you'll get messed around with them not caring about doing the work promptly. At worst, it's a con-artist who just takes the money and is never seen or heard again.
