I am one of three cheque signatories for a Barclays account for the management company for a small block of flats. Our only income is monthly standing orders. Our only outgo is cheques. None of our details have changed for many years. We have not received a statement since April. Our standing orders are still going through and no-one has complained that our cheques are bouncing. When you phone you are warned of long waits and directed to webchat or online. Webchat disconnects as soon as you get on it. Two of us have applied for online access, and received emails with a membership number promising a passcode in the post. Nothing arrives, and the email tells you if this happens to phone them. And round you go. I have also written to them, without response. I have investigated moving to another bank, but no-one seems to be accepting new business at the moment. I did get through on the phone once, and was told the reason we were getting no statements was that our account was marked as "Gone Away". The person I spoke to said he couldn't say why, but had corrected it. It has had no effect.
Unless anyone has any better suggestions I'm going to have to drive 20 miles to my nearest branch and join the queue outside, but my fear is that even after doing this nothing will change. I'd be very grateful if anyone has any theories as to what might have happened, so if they are looking baffled I can say "Is it possible that . . . ?"
