I thought i had everything covered when I booked a tour but now realise  I can't see any MSE advice for tours if the country you're travelling to decides uk arrivals have to quarantine (eg for 14 days) thereby making the tour impossible to join. Also can't see any insurance which covers that eventuality.

  • What kind of a tour, a day trip out or a tour around USA or similar?  When is this tour and who did you book with?   You would need to check the t's and c's of booking and see if you can defer/get refund, bearing in mind circumstances could change if you have weeks before you are due to go.    Have you actually checked your insurance policy or do you mean you haven't yet taken out insurance?   Not really enough info to go on and responses will differ depending on that info.

Is the tour the whole holiday or is it just one part of the holiday?
Some insurances have  additional cover available for disruption to trips but it would have to have ben bought along with your travel insurance at the time.
You will get more help if you explain exactly what you booked and who with.
Was it part of a package or a separate booking?

This tour http://www.newmarketholidays.co.uk/holidays/europe/etna-taormina-and-classic-sicily based on 2 centres https://www.newmarketholidays.co.uk/peace-of-mind which was reassuring but the possibility of Italy requiring us to isolate hadn't occurred to me and isn't mentioned anywhere in their promises or their insurance. Only 16 days to go so too late to defer under their flexible policy. I will phone them tomorrow but I want to be as prepared as possible

There is no requirement at present for travellers from the UK to self isolate

Yes I know. I'm trying to establish the position re my rights if one is introduced as MSE has no advice on that scenario. For example can I buy a policy that covers me if that happens.

Yes, but it will be very expensive.  Google "warzone insurance."

IF the regulations changed and Italy introduced a requirement for you to quarantine at the start of your Newmarket packaged tour then I think they would simply cancel the tour and refund you.

Keep an eye on the UK & Italy new daily cases figures.
Currently Italy has a higher figure per capita than UK so would probably not introduce quarantine for a country with lower figures (I think).

You've booked a tour so being stuck in a hotel would mean you can't partake in the product you booked, so you would be eligible for a refund if a country wide/island wide lockdown happened pre-departure.  The T&Cs of the tour may allow them to substitute activities or alter the itinerary due to circumstances outside of their control, so if one specific town on the itinerary went in to lockdown then it might be the holiday goes ahead with a modified itinerary.
