After working in a branch for 3 years, nothing surprises me anymore. People take big risks for as little as £5 a go.
Would you like to expand on that?
Why does it matter? Doesn't have anything to do with the story really.

Neither does your post, didn't stop you though.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

The article does not show or tell us how the money got out of the accounts?
The big hint is "Card Details"
So they used the stolen card details to set up gambling accounts and gambled for free....
Only up side is Lloyds will have got the money back and the gambling companies lost it.

Still don't get it as any winnings would be paid back into the 'stolen' card - ie the original account - how would they have withdrawn funds?

Winning isn't the goal for gambling addicts.  Even when they're at the top of a winning streak they'll keep playing until their balance is £0.

If you have stolen debt card details there are ways to 'withdraw' money from a bank account.  You could buy stuff online or use a money transfer app or website.  Transaction authentication and ID requirements are making those things more difficult now, however the offences took place more than two and a half years ago when they were, perhaps, easier.

And to think bank workers were the pillar of society. However now  they are just sales advisors who probably have never taken any bank exams.

I know seems daft, but they do it. Have even seen accounts with winnings on them as well. Sadly account holder does not get to keep them.
Very much like why they take out car ins, or book flights/holidays which are all traceable.
