Has he paid his utility bills?. Perhaps he has missed the red one.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I have had the same problem for some weeks now, but last week I fixed it. Before, links wouldn't load properly and I was getting "Timed Out Messages". Or, if they did load it was very, very slow. Strangely enough on some days everything was fine. It was only on this forum, MoneySavingExpert, that I noticed wasn't working correctly, other sites that I visited were perfect, with pages opening just about instantaneously.
I had the same problem no matter which browser I was using Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, or Safari.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I have discovered that the cause of the problem. My modem, 3Com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 54 Mbps 11g Firewall Router, has a built-in firewall, which I don't really need as I have Zone Alarm running on my computer. I disabled/switched off the modems built-in firewall and as soon as I did this all the problems disappeared. Now, this forum works just as well as any other site on the Internet. No delays whatsoever. It seems odd but there was something about this site that the firewall didn't like.

If you're modem has a firewall and you are getting the sloooows, try doing what I have done and maybe it will work for you as well as it's done for me.

so if all other sites on the web work fine but one doesn't, the problem is the firewall in the modem and not the website in question........

if people who can get on are having problems, then there may be others who can't even get on to say they are having troubles, which it's in MSE's interests to be making sure people aren't having to reconfigure PC's/routers to access the site

Question to others with issues: are you opening one browser/tab to MSE at a time or multiple ones? I definitely get more issues if I attempt to have a tab open another page in background, could they be seeing 'valid' requests as another attack as the requests come from the same IP address in quick succession?

The webmaster has posted this in the forum discussion board:

Hi folks,

What we really need are IP addresses from you if you're having trouble getting through.

Any easy way to find out is to go to www.whatismyip.com

If you could copy and paste this number into an e-mail and send it to siteproblems@moneysavingexpert.com, it would help us a great deal.

Thanks,

Webby

I had massive trouble last night and this evening, now I followed the advice above and all is ok. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

This is possibly because, if it is a problem with filtering IP addresses, you're changing your IP address and by giving yourself a new one you aren't running into the same problems. For a while anyway. I'm guessing this is all to do with the recent anti-DDOS measures they've put in place which usually work by analysing the IP addresses etc. Sounds like it's being a bit too overzealous.
