Painting Composite door

That works. Oh my - that works :-)booter said:
I think that's really striking, very effective. Grain texture showing through too. Fab.
Sorry, Rosa - I much prefer the black :-)

The black is much smarter.

The original colour was fine - but the lacquer had peeled in the centre, so it looked very tatty, and needed tidying up. I may have chosen a different colour, if I'd been prepared to wait! (Which I wasn't 😁).Rosa_Damascena said:
Looks good, but I personally prefer the previous finish. In picking a composite door, why did you not pick the colour you wanted in the first place? Or has this door been installed for a while and you just fancied a change?booter said:
There were only black and white in stock, but I believe you can get other colours online. I wanted to catch the dry weather so went for black 😊Jeepers_Creepers said:Nice job Booter.
What colour did you go for? Any chance of a photo, please? :-)
Not sure how to post a pic - does this work?

I like the look of the original door, can i be cheeky and ask where you bought it from, and how much it cost?
It was bought from a manufacturer off eBay - iirc, it around £300 delivered. Can't remember the sellers details though, sorry!0 -
Thanks, I think it works too! 😁Jeepers_Creepers said:

And to think, I was told you could NEVER paint a composite/upvc door!2 -
So is this a case that the surface of the door was originally painted? My door was advertised as "A totally maintenance-free solution. Through colour GRP skin means you’ll never have to paint your composite external door. Any knocks or scratches will simply not show." My black composite door is seven years old, but still looks like new - it faces South West, so gets strong sun throughout summer.0

I'll give another shout for Bedec multi surface paint. I've used it on guttering, metal garden furniture and an oak gate (it was 50yrs old and looking bad). When it wasn't available locally I ordered online direct and wonderful selection of colours.Thought of doing the front door as I don't like the colour but it's in very good nick and needs no maintenance so I'd be setting myself up for more work and no going back once it's been 'keyed'.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

I think it all depends on the manufacturer - i believe mine was a through colour skin, but mine was then lacquered (the "before" pic was after I'd sanded it to get the loose lacquer off). Obviously your manufacturer did a better job than mine 😊ic said:So is this a case that the surface of the door was originally painted? My door was advertised as "A totally maintenance-free solution. No, I wouldn't have done it just for a colour change 😊 I may try Bedec at some point - just that Screwfix was closer. I'm completely sold on multi surface paints now, especially since no primer is required, and the quick drying time........🤔 hmmm, the skirtings could do with a spruce (maybe not black though!) 🤣twopenny said:I'll give another shout for Bedec multi surface paint. Aa ha - I assumed you'd be ramming the door open with bags or something, rubbing the colour away!booter said:

Quick update - the black still looks good, however.......I should have sanded it right back all over (Not just where the lacquer was blistered) as now there are a couple of other areas blistering 😞 Not peeling yet, but it'll probably need re-doing in the summer. Oh well, my own fault *sigh*
At least I've got plenty of paint left! 😁1
