Door Latch Fallen Out - how to fix? (with Video)

Complete novice here but see video below:
So the door latch fell out. From my limited research I need to unscrew the door handles, pull out the unit in the middle and take it to Homebase or similar and ask for a replacement of the same size and then bring that home and install it. I was hoping that that would not be necessary but please let me know if there is an easier fix. If I do need to replace the entire thing do these come in standard sizes - wondering if a replacement will fit properly in the same space as existing one?

Replacement is the only way. Take the old one out to make sure you get the correct one -there are two different standard lengths from memory.
Just take one handle off, remove the spindle, undo the 2 screws on the latch, on the edge of the door and prise the whole latch out - use a lever of some kind/screwdriver as it will probably be a tight-ish fit.
5 minute job to replace.and cheap to buy from diy stores/screwfix etc

£2ish from Toolstation , use the spindle to push the latch away from the door so you can remove it easily

Its not repairable the metal has stretched , replacement is the only option
  • cheers, good to know :)
