Apple music home sharing ..

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has given up trying to use it . 

Short version : All of my Apple products have been updated to latest software updates . 2 advisers can't fix home sharing.
Latest Apple TV / 2018 imac/ latest software on iPad mini 4 and iPhone se 

long version : 

Last night ,  after doing the obvious and supposedly straight forward tasks of getting my music library from my iMac to 
my Apple TV ( latest version ) I decided to do the live chat thing on apple support .
I would say that in total, after speaking virtually to 2 advisers and my continuous efforts before and after it was 2 hrs of my life wasted.

This morning was the closest I came to resolving the problem , by going into the preferences folder but this time unticking Média sharing then ticking it again . When I signed into my Apple ID yet again, it looked like success. But no...only the one album which was paid for appeared constantly . Of course the banner for joining Apple Music appears . On the iPhone / pad the wheel which spins stops just as it looks like home sharing will start . 

In the future , I will only have one apple product which will probably be the latest iPad and lave it at at that.
If anyone here has got home sharing to work, I'd love to hear from you , and I will put my dunces cap on .
