This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning folks.Must be lie-in-Sunday, certainly I've been loitering in bed surfing, reading and thinking. Another dull day though the sun may well come out.Yesterday was fairly quiet. I didn't go out when DM's friend was here, just dossed around the house reading, had hoped for a sneaky snooze but it didn't happen. I wrapped some wee presents for a birthday and then packed them in a bright green padded envelope. I also ordered a gin picnic bag (with gin, tonic and lemons) for the same birthday friend and am now contemplating getting one for myself!Congrats to M.E. on the first grandchild, such a great time for the family.I hope that everyone is doing OK at the very least and wish you all a Happy Sunday.12

Morning All
I've had a pottering kind of morning but don't seem to have done much apart from pay the credit card bill. Just had fried tomatoes for breakfast with potato scones, very tasty and uses up some the tomato mountain that seems to be forming!
Busy day yesterday, shopping and allotment, DD and little Sophie came to the allotment to help pick the green beans. Sophie was taking them out of the tub as fast as we were putting them in. DDs car has a problem with the front suspension so I gave her a lift to the restaurant they were all meeting in, she came back to collect it later although I wasn't very happy at it being driven. Still, she made it safely so all's well.
I took out all the cucumber plants here and cleared the little greenhouse, one step nearer to autumn. Dead headed lots of the flowers and then hoovered them up with the mower - so much easier than picking them all up! The Dhalias are just beginning to flower and are glorious, hope we don't have too much bad weather and I can enjoy them.
Congratulations ME, lovely to hear of a new little Grandbaby.
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks for the kick start GERS. It was wall-to-wall blue sky and sunshine when I got up by by heck it was chilly. Sadly cloud is now taking over. It matters not because, as usual, not much in the way of lockdown plans in store.
I have a gammon joint simmering away for lunch but veg yet to prep. The stock will make a big pan of my favourite lentil and bacon soup to bag up for the freezer. The cat litter tray has been changed, the kitchen bin emptied and deposited in the wheelie and the birdies fed. It was flippin' cold out there. The dw has been on but still awaits emptying when I cba. There are other jobs waiting in the wings but I am trying to ignore them. I have a book to finish and that takes priority!
Congrats to ME. Make the best of the baby days they are gone in a flash. My DGDs are now 16, 12 and 10 and it seems like only yesterday that I was nappy changing.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Hi both, it's unusual for me to be in the "early" posters.
I did bu**er all yesterday as my mum would have said but I feel better for it. I did wash the towels from Yorkshire and make dinner but apart from that I dozed through the afternoon. I think today will be another quiet day but hopefully I'll be fit to start sorting stuff tomorrow. We have an awful lot of outgrown baby stuff here to go in the loft (Laura and Brian don't have a loft and very little other storage space).
I forgot, I did a grocery shop at Lidl yesterday, first time I've been in there since early March, it was nice to get some of their bread and also to pay a bill that was less than £50 for a weekly shop. Groceries have been costing us a fortune during lockdown so I'm hoping that I can economise a bit in the run up to the C word.
Does anyone else feel like the seasons are shifting forward now, it's very Autumnal at the moment, it was so cold yesterday the heating came on and we had all that beautiful weather in the Spring.13 -
Morning all,
Long time no seeI have missed this little corner of the internet. Hope that you are all doing well.
Chicken in the slow cooker and veg to be prepped soon. DP and his dad will be watching the rugby this afternoon so I have made a lemon curd cake.
Back to work tomorrow after almost 2 weeks off and .......... well I'm dreading it!
It definitely feels Autumnal here - the heating isn't on yet but the candles are out. It is mostly damp and rainy here ..... I am hoping for a crisp Autumn rather than a soggy Autumn. x11 -
Morning all, the sun was shining through the curtains again this morning and woke me up early, this weather certainly lifts my spirits.Yesterday I was like a whirling dervish and did everything I expected to do, plus bleached the sinks, altered DGS's trousers, some weeding and swept the patio. I even found time to replant the buddleia sapling. I didn't know where to plant it though and dithered about, but anyway I've just put it in for now and I can move it when I decide, hopefully it will grow.Today I have found more washing to do and that is on the whirly already, I've packed DGS's small presents ( he wanted mostly money this year.... you can tell he's growing up fast ! ) and now I must make his cake ready for decoration tomorrow. This afternoon I want to get out in the garden as all the hedges need tidying again and all the lawns need mowing. I can't do all of it today but there's always tomorrow if the weather holds. I think I'll take the heavy quilt back off the bed as we were much too hot and uncomfortable last night because the temperature was nowhere near 4 degrees !No more procrastinating the cake awaits !Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Gers.
Lovely sunshine today, though cold - think it is warming up a bit now.
So far I have done the extra washing up that collects itself by magic overnight, dug up potatoes which we shall have with dinner tonight, put the haulm plus a load of toadstools from the front garden into the compost and given it a mix up, had some toast, replanted a rosemary (baby one) fed birds and vermin and swept through. OH has brought the papers and is making me a cup of tea.
I did congratulate M.E. last evening but bet she won't have seen it so again, congratulations.
I'm going to read the paper and later on will probably rake up leaves again, they are falling early, probably the trees trying to conserve energy after a hot summer. Or some botanical thing I know little about.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Morning all
Woke up earlier but have been pottering around one wash on the line and another in the wm, the sun is out today but with a very sharp wind so washing should dry well.
We are going on our bikes later to a little seaside cafe where they do whitebait and beer /wine we usually have a whitebait and chips to share and it is delicious we go the long way round to the beach and end up doing about 19 miles so I feel like I have cycled the calories off !!
I think we will try for a bbq tonight although its a tad windy, we have not had one all weekend and we are getting withdrawal symptoms
I can certainly feel the change in the season I am sitting at night with a blanket on my legs, I am quite desperate to light the log burner but its just not quite cold enough yet.
M.E congratulations on your Grand daughter how lovely !! does she have a name yet ?
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Hello everyone.
Normally on Aug Bank holiday weekend Sunday I would be going to a local town Summer festival. Market stalls & other entertainment & free yes free live music all day in the town square.
It was/is my traditional end of summer relax. It is a pretty good day for it too. About 18c Sunny.
Usually the Salvation Army perform in the square first raising money for a good cause.
However as you've probably figured it has all been cancelled due to Covid19.
Real shame & difficult to find alternative to relax. So, my day so far has consisted of a little bit of housework, a relaxing bath & a look online for supermarket delivery slots. Pleased to say bagged a Sainsbury's slot Tues 4pm for just one pound! And a green slot too.
After lunch will be watching the live free cricket on BBC. Yes still miss my normal Aug bank hol Sunday entertainment however can not let the negativity of that make me depressed. If you are in a similar position try something different. I once read a book in Lockdown on the communal landing of my apartment block sitting in folding chair with cup of tea in hand! It was quiet & certainly different.
Don't worry ...be happy.
Accept the things you can not change & change the things you can.

Hi everyone
The sun is out today and made things slightly warmer so thats lovely.
I had a nice lie in and then went down to sit with dad while mam was at church. DD dropped little one off as she's working - we managed to get dad's email to eldest DD in Stockholm done while little one pottered about and played with her toys. Dad kept stopping to sing to her so it took longer than usual!
I have my banking to do and another couple of jobs while she is sleeping, then we might walk along to Asda as I bought a new pair of jeans the other day and they are too long. I'm sure their standard ones have grown longer....or perhaps I'm shrinking! I'll exchange them for short ones
Hope everyone has a good day.8
