Tesco 5p off petrol coupon & inflated prices

At the moment Tesco are heavily promoting their 'special offer' where you get a coupon that gives you 5p of a litre of fuel if you spend more than £50 in store.
Other supermarkets have done similar promotions in the past, but the difference here seems to be that Tesco are inflating the fuel prices to offset the cost of the coupon!
Example... the Tesco behind the Hoover Building in west London had Petrol at 84.9 and Diesel at 88.9, whereas the Sainsbury in Alperton (less than 1 mile away) had petrol at 83.9 and diesel at 84.9.
As you can see, you still get it cheaper if you use the coupon, but if not, go elsewhere!
Tesco's pump prices always used to at least match the cheapest in the area, but it seems that they are (once again) relying on peoples apathy and mistaken belief that they will always be cheaper!

C'mon, that's a bit harsh. Petrol prices have been going down slightly recently (dunno about diesel), and Tesco might just be lagging a day or two behind. Bear in mind, 1p is the minimum possible price difference even though it's priced in tenths (hrnggg, don't get me started!).0

Our local Tescos put the price of fuel up 1p per litre the day the new promotion started of spend £50 get 5p off per litre.0

The Tesco at Pitsea in Essex had unleaded at 80.9p yesterday0

Our local tesco has been 80.9 for unleaded for the last 3-4 weeks, and that is by far the cheapest locally. Best I have seen it elsewhere is 83.9
Regards24 hours in a day. 24 beers in a case ... coincidence? :beer:0 -
I noticed that my local tecos petrol is 84.9 at the moment, but the esso 1/2 a mile down the road is 83.9 they normally always always have the same price petrol as they are in direct competition no otehr petrol station for ages, so it must be the same down here as well.
sneaky aint they tescos :rolleyes:0 -
Unfortunately Tesco is my cheapest at the moment. To and from my teaching practice, I travel DIRECTLY past 3 petrol stations each one more expensive than the next - and they're not on particularly major roads, nor are they one man bands.
In addition, I very rarely spend above £50 in Tesco, even when doing a "big" shop.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
I do about 3 to 5 tanks per week and I use Tesco if it's cheaper than the other local garages ( Bury usually), I left the M40 last week to use Tesco at Banbury and it was 6p per litre dearer than Bury on the same day! That is profiteering in my opinion, they will surely buy all their fuel from the same place at the same price.
I used a Tesco filling station in Leeds last week where the petrol was 80.9 per litre next door literally was another gareage at 89.9, it was very quiet!0 -
Theres another station next to the tesco extra pump in leeds? The Crossgates one yes? Or is there another one in Leeds I haven’t found?
I always drive past 2 stations when I go into leeds from home, esso and a shell. They always battle with prices (being 15 seconds drive apart), but esso is always 2p per litre cheaper on petrol and diesel than shell – regardless of shells price, almost as if they check eachothers prices every hour.0 -

I fill up every night at Tesco Brent Park and Diesel is 89.9,which is about 5 miles? from the Hoover Building.
I haven't noticed how much it is in my local Tesco in Swansea,as i only fill up there once a month.
I will check out Tesco Bulls Bridge (i think it's called) in Hayes,i am sure it is cheaper there.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0
