  • Similar thing happened to me...mortgage company wrote asking me to contact them about a refund on charges when mortgage was in arrears.
I could either have amount credited to mortgage or amount paid into bank.
Rang and arranged it to go into my new bank account.
  • Indeed but if the refund is sent straight to the OP, nobody will ever know about it. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

ORs have better things to be doing than checking up on people who were made bankrupt 5 years ago and discharged 4 years ago, and presumably finished their IPA two years ago.
My father won a payout for a PPI claim for a policy he'd had several years ago. He'd been declared bankrupt a couple of years later. Even though the PPI claim paid out almost half a decade after he'd been bankrupt and he never mentioned anything about it when making the claim the letter stated that as he had been bankrupt that they were paying the OR directly. So whilst the OR might not be interested in doing it the banks most certainly will in order to stick two fingers up to you and stick the knife in by letting you know you won, how much you would have got and that you won't see a penny of it.

  • Post discharge you can keep it then, its known as an "After Acquired Asset".
Once you are discharged from bankruptcy you are no longer bound by the restrictions of a bankrupt, as such most windfalls that you receive after this date are yours to keep.

Just as long as it is not anything to do with anything that happened prior to being declared.

    Did they do it?
