    Hi All,

I was a first time buyer and maybe i have made quite a few of first time buyer errors.
    .........
The error here is the basic one even experienced buyers fall foul of that is lack of research.

The number that don't do basic stuff like check the planning application for the property, those near by and for the wider area.
Especially open spaces that could be developed on, there may be old failed applications just waiting for a change in policy.

Some don't seem to google for any local news or check the local plan.

Then if you wan to do something specific(like you did) check the council planning policy along with other planning  and regs that may affect the plans.

A lot of this you do before spending any money,

I think you may be better of spending the money on a permit rather than go for the dropped curb.

I don't rate your chances - and I don't think you ought to be trying. Just accept you got a "bargain" for a reason and you now know what that reason is.

There are naive people in every generation.

It's a long-standing error in the printed OED - it's out of place, alphabetically. It's been placed just next to "gullible".

OP,  you haven't told us whether you're paying a premium for this "driveway". If not, then how much would it matter to you in the worst case scenario i.e. you have to use your front garden for something else, and park on the street?
