How long for Money to go back.

Options
Just a quick question.
My wife an I are OAPs and yesterday we managed to get into our local TUI shop to ask about a refund on the Deposit for a cancelled cruise.
We managed to get our Deposit refunded to the NatWest Credit card that we paid it on, but it has not yet gone back into our account.
We are at the 'Junior school' stage of Financial Knowledge but I thought it was paid back immediately and it has not been refunded yet.
Is there a delay on refunds to Credit Cards?

If it only happened yesterday it wont be appearing until at least Tuesday I would say, we are now into a bank holiday.  Even then it may take a few days more, usally places will say "up to 5 working days" to cover their backs.

Did they process the refund there and then on the machine? Did you sign for it?

Definitely a few days - it’s never instant in refunds. Keep calm and carry on until it appears next week. If you haven’t had it by next Friday then you can raise a complaint with them to find out why it’s not arrived.
  • Yes, I signed for it in the shop and got a payment credit receipt.
    Is that a normal procedure?
  • 3 -5 working days is the norm, bear in mind the bank holiday on Monday - so the back end of next week would be my guess.

Yes perfectly normal. Just wanted to clarify thats how they refunded it, rather than add your name to a list for someone in a back office to do (like they were doing for online customers), in which case it would take a bit longer.

Credit card systems will not update till Monday evening now. They only update once a day & not at weekends/ public holidays.
You might notice your available balance is higher, but it will not actually appear on a statement till Tuesday.
That is assuming that the travel agent processed the refund there and then. Is it a card terminal receipt you have got? If it has been passed to travel co, then it would take longer.
    Life in the slow lane
  • Yes, it is a card terminal receipt.
