Fourth Anniversary First Post
edited 19 May at 4:52PM in Coronavirus Board
Hi, we have recently paid up for a 4 night stay in a self catering lodge in the cotswolds for november but I am now concerned after seeing the recent "leaked" government report on winter
that new lockdown measures (national or local) could come into force before then.
My question is what are my cancellation rights in the event of a local lockdown, either in my area of residence or the accommodation? Or a national lockdown? Should I look to get travel insurance and if so what should I be looking for?
Thanks!

If the accommodation is closed and not available to you then you should be due a refund
If the accommodation is open and available to you and you choose not to travel then the terms and conditions at time of booking will apply unless the company / owner decides to offer a waiver - many have allowed date changes.
Your terms and conditions should state whether you have booked on a refundable or non-refundable basis

  • With the uncertainty in the world just now I would have thought anybody booking a holiday recently would ensure they booked a refundable rate?   If not then you will be bound by the t's and c's you agreed to when booking.  If it is a non flexible booking You probably won't have any cancellation rights but would be refunded if the accommodation was cancelled for you.   Taking out insurance is a good idea but it would need to cover you specifically for FCO advice against travelling.   I imagine this will not come cheap.

Unless you can cancel for free now and it will put your mind at rest, I would forget about it until much nearer the time and see how the situation is then (but yes do check out insurance cover)

FCO advice would not relate  to a staycation. It would be local  lockdown or quarantine.
I doubt you will find insurance to cover what is known to be a possibility. Insurance os for unexpected events.
