I am intending to move, spelling, say £350k buying, say £320 mortgage free. The last move nearly 20 years back most outgoings/ incomings were toward the end. What should i reserve for upfront earlier expenses ;please?

Search fees are the only up front costs. These vary depending on purchase price and location.
The solicitors prepare a completion statement to show how much is needed to complete the purchase, this is done in readiness for exchange of contracts.
Email at least 3 solicitors firms, say how much you are looking to buy for, the county you are buying in, if you will be a cash buyer or taking a mortgage and whether you have a property to sell, if you do confirm the rough sale price and area the property is in.
Solicitors have done fixed conveyancing costs for years now.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -

Similar situation here as we last moved 20 years ago. £250 £150 to EA for photos & video tour. We already had valid EPC but that could be an extra £50 or so.
Solicitors quoted separately for sale & purchase as initially we hadn't looked for next home as we were intending to move into rented. Solicitors requested £50 and £250 up front respectively. Now found next home, so having survey & valuation, £475, done as we don't need a mortgage. Total £1025 so far. I'd budget at least £1200.
Good luck
edited to correct charge for photos - worth every penny!0 -
Search fees upfront, ours were £400. Any survey you want £200-1000 depending on what you have. Removals also required a 50% deposit on securing the date. Packing materials cost us more than anticipated too, around £200 for a 5 bed. We also had to pay a small fee upfront to the EA for better photos (was it worth it? Who knows) right at the start.0
