O/S Daily Saturday 29 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, damp underfoot but not raining at the moment although it is forecast yet again, blustery wind has returned.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad. I had fishcakes and salad. We're hoping to bbq later - may end up me cooking it in the oven if the weather is rubbish. We'll be having burgers, kebabs/beef sticks, sausages, chicken. fish, salad, hot new potatoes.
I'll be going out shortly to visit the butcher and the SM as we had a problem with the DW last night and it tripped the electric, and was showing an error message - I think it's not draining properly, so am going to buy a DW cleaner - I do normally use one every so often but the water here is very hard and all appliances that use water suffer.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's a lovely sunny but chilly morning, I've a white wash to put on once I've had a shower. I put the bedding out when I got home from work yesterday and it was dry in a little over an hour. All the housework was done last night including the insides of the windows, I even washed the filters in the hoover but only because I was emptying it and I dropped it all in the green bin!
Hugs to you bella, glad you could be there.
Hope your DM has warmed up Gers, I've had to put a throw on the bed the last few nights as it's so much colder. I think a winter quilt may have to go on soon.
Shopping and allotment today but apart from that nothing planned but I will be outside enjoying the sunshine, such a rare treat at the moment.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX12 -
Morning all, now don't all faint because I'm posting super early ! I had an Iceland shop coming 8am til 10 and it was here at 6.45
Good job Mr Fix It is an early riser as I was still in bed !! NMLC thanks for starting off today.
Anyway all shopping present and correct, not much needed and mainly fresh stuff, like milk, bread and fruit. There were a few items ready for DGS's birthday lunch too. Oh! and another pizza as requested by DGD. It has all been disinfected etc and put away.I have put the wm on and stripped the bed. The bedding will go in next and as the sun is shining and the wind is blowing quite strongly, I will hang it out and hope it stays on the line.Today I need to clean the bedroom, take up DGS's trousers, hoover through downstairs and then remake the bed. I'm going to put the heavier tog duvet on for tonight as it's supposed to be going down to 4 degrees, brrrrr ! I also have to find my fleece lounge pj's, found the bottoms but not the tops, so will have to rummage and sort out the bottom of the wardrobe. That little lot should keep me busy for most of the day. I found some pre-cooked lasagne in the freezer and we now have Iceland strawberries and ice cream for pud, so that's tea sorted.I think I'll have another coffee before I start the rest of the day, might wake me up a bit ! I can't get my head around what day it is..... thought it was FridayHope everyone can have a good day though.
Take care all, stay safe and well............ and warmnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Despite the blue sky and sunshine I'm an even more morose TA this morning. It's taken until this morning to finally find out we are still in lockdown. The announcement of those released from lockdown wasn't explicit enough and we didn't know where the boundaries for lockdown started and finished. A bitter bulletin from the council went into greater detail and has accused the 2 MP's involved of cherry picking and point scoring. So there we are, still at least another week in lockdown. P******d off sums up how I am feeling.
Anyway I have now been fed, watered and dressed and just awaiting the first little bus into town. I ordered some clothes online and they were delivered yesterday. Two I am keeping and two are going back so heading down to send them back. I'll have a little wander whilst down and if there is a mass demonstration going on about the cherry picked release areas I may well join them!!
Have a good day folks and take care. ((HUGS)) for Bella, yesterday was a tough day for you. x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning all.
Camelot, enjoy the sunshine. I cannot believe that so recently we were sweltering in tropical temperatures and today we are talking in terms of hot water bottles and fleece jammies.
Nanny, tear up that to do list. It really is Saturday. The weekend. Day off. Enjoy yourself.
Aw, TA, so sorry that your incarceration isn't over. Never mind, at least the trip out will be a change of scene, even if it is only to post a package.
The day hasn't really started for me yet, I'm just about to crawl into the kitchen in search of coffee and breakfast. I'm not sure what I'll be doing today, but as it is Saturday it will involve a wander down to the village shop to buy the only newspaper of the week that I buy. Then home to read and tackle the puzzles.
Hope everyone has a good day, whatever you are up to.

Morning
What a beautiful day lovely blue sky and the sun shining...yes its cooler but at least can sleep now
Asda have been and gone with just one sub olives instead of capers they went back as I'm really not an olive lover. I once heard if you eat 50 you will start to love them but not willing to try. Anyway everything else there so will do a meal plan for the week later. Tonight Im thinking sausage mash and onion gravy
Bit of cleaning planned but hoping its warm enough to sit out for a bit
Have a good day all14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
A sunny, blowy day so I have done a towel wash and that's blowing about on the line. It must be a lot colder because our heating came on automatically for a bit earlier. I was cold in bed too but I think that was due to him indoors rolling himself up in the duvet like a sausage roll. He made some very cross noises in his sleep when I tried to get a bit of duvet. I'm not dressed yet but am wearing a cardigan over my pjs,so classy.
Yesterday was very wet so I stayed in, today looks far more promising so I should be able to go for a walk.
Bella, yesterday must have been very hard for you, I was thinking of you.
TA I'm not surprised that you are fed up. Not much fun at present really. I don't know if we are going to go back into lockdown, our rates rose, then went down a bit but there are still a lot of people who feel that no restrictions apply to them, and some of them live round the corner.
I have jobs to do so will get ready and start doing them. Hope everyone has a tolerable day, if not actually a good one.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all
How come everyone seems to have the sun and its dull and overcast herein fact its quite chilly Ive got up and put a fleece on this morning !! OH has put his work clothes on to wash and he can hang them out later as there is a good wind blowing as well.
DD is off to see an old girl friend from school tonight and staying over at her place so I am puppy wrangling for the night, I dont mind as they are going to get some wine etc in and celebrate dd selling her house it will be nice for them.
OH and I intend to get out on the bikes later for a good long ride and then take the pups out for a walk, we are hoping that it warms up for a bbq tonight but if not we will cook indoors.
Yesterdays trip out with my sister was lovely it was a beautiful old house in the middle of nowhere two gay guys lived there and ran a little industry selling homemade pots, plants, cakes chutneys jams etc, they normally let you in the stunning house but cant at the moment, I shall be going back for sure, we then drove round all the country lanes looking at houses and stopping at stalls outside houses selling produce and buying the odd thing, it really was a lovely day.
Nels I diddnt like olives for a long time and I just kept trying a tiny bit of one when someone else had some with a bit of cheese or meat etc, one morning I woke up craving them and we went and got some for dinner and I have loved them ever since !!
Right better get moving have good days all xx13 -
Hi everyone, We're home, we drove all the way in more or less torrential rain, it was horrible. Laura and Brian went up to Scotland and thankfully had better weather, I hope it holds for their sailing to Barra on Monday. I'm going to miss my litlle man but at least I have a week to recover, I don't know how those women who have babies in their 60's cope.
So today I will be having a very quiet day, although I need to go to the supermarket this morning for bread etc. Steve and Chris are playing golf this afternoon so I'll have some time to myself. Sorry, that's the extent of my boring life and my brain feels fried so I'll just say that I have been reading the thread and sympathising or celebrating with those in need.12 -
Morning folks.I've been out for the shopping, two supermarkets and the black pudding tart cafe. Everything is now unpacked, I've had a coffee and some breakfast whilst doing a bit of surfing around. Can't bear olives either, or capers, or most pickles. Yeugh!TA - so sorry!
At least the bus trip will bring you some fresh air.
The sun is out here, as is the wind. The heating came on too though I've turned the radiators down as the flat is still rather warm. DM is snug under her duvet still.I hope that everyone enjoys their day, happy Saturday to all.11 -
Back from my little excursion into town and feeling a bit calmer now. The 3 of us waiting for the bus down aired our grievances and got the injustices off our chests. So I now feel a bit less like Vesuvius waiting to erupt. Still fed up though. Never mind, I have the excitement of a Tesco delivery at tea-time and hate to tell you olive-haters but I have 4 jars of olives on the list!! I go through them like nobody's business. Only black ones mind, I hate the look of green ones and can't bring myself to try one.
Take care all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10
