You don't just buy a new-build out of the blue, you must have been considering this months ago.
but otherwise I'd agree with you
Unforeseen circumstances, no matter how unexpected, do not void the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Can you be a little bit more vague please ? It takes months to buy a house so did your offer get accepted months ago and you are about to exchange or have you just had an offer accepted ? If you have only just had your offer accepted then you won’t be moving in any time soon..... If it was months ago did you not realise you were in a legally binding contract with your current landlord and just decided to bury your head in the sand ? Now reality has hit you come here whining how mean and nasty your landlord is....2

Considering you’re able to communicate with your landlord directly, you should start by offering to reimburse all their losses incurred as a result of you choosing to end the tenancy early, and you should make efforts to find a replacement tenant. That’s a fair and reasonable proposal, which any landlord should accept if they’re also reasonable.
By the time your property purchase actually completes, it’ll likely be less than three months before the end of your fixed term, so you need to consider whether the above proposal is actually worth it.0 -
OP says it's a new build 'and will be finished in just one or two weeks'. But fails to tell us if the HA as actually set a date for exchange yet...my guess is that completion before October is unlikely, so we are at most talking a 2 month overlap. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I'd foot the bill for the remainder of the tenancy from the money I would have put aside for it when budgeting for the house purchase.
If you can't afford to pay 3 months bills at both properties then you can't afford to buy a house.
What an unhelpful, rubbish and tone deaf thing to say. They should have considered their contract when they timed their purchase and started looking for places to buy, sure. You know 3 months of rent for most of us is around £3-5k? Not many first time buyers can pay that and mortgage and home improvements. Doesn't mean they should be renting forever.
