Leather sofa discolouring the wall- prevention ideas?

Hi
I am looking for some advice please.
We have just repainted our front room and the walls are cream. We have a burgundy leather sofa that was pushed up against the wall which discolored the wall/sofa where the leather has rubbed off. It’s only a small room so the sofa needs to be up against the wall or just an inch away from the wall to stop it discoloring again. If I pull the sofa away from the wall, each time someone sits down it moves back. Is there something  I can use/ buy to stop this happening?  Anyone had this issue?. The legs of the sofa are as in photo below - can I get caster cups to fit in this shape? Also getting a wood floor laid soon so it’s got to be something strong and not slide and scratch. Is there a simple solution as I’m probably over complicating it.  Many thanks

I only heard of them and never used personally.

can you not put a piece of wood batten between the  skirting board and the legs. If you're worried it will scratch you could cover it with some old material glued on - no one would see it  so wouldn't have to be perfect

I'd agree with the above, or anything narrow that will keep your sofa from touching the wall. Even the cardboard tubes inside foil rolls will do (one each end).  Will need to be quite rigid though to stop it being squashed and becoming useless.

Just had a thought and decided to add that the usefulness  depends how far away the legs are from the back of the sofa (cardboard tube may be too narrow)..  A small box might be more useful.

caster cups screwed to the floor will stop it sliding back

That was going to be my suggestion too.

  • Thanks for your ideas.  I will try out the suggestions.  Ideally just need something to go fix on the back of the sofa either end which will just keep the sofa a few cm away from the wall.

For me, the simplest solution would be to stick something like low-tack masking tape or washi tape to the wall (or the back of the sofa), then leave it pushed against the wall so it won't move.
