Options
Hi everyone,
Quick question from me, does anybody know if its possible to upgrade from the The American Express® Rewards Credit Card to the American Express® Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card?
Cheers!

Have you asked them? I don't see why not, so long as you are willing to pay the fee.

(In practice you would apply for the new card you want, and once it is opened you could close the old card account.)

It's a good question. It's normally possible to change to products in the same category, e.g. the two BA cards and the two MR earning charge cards (Green & Platinum), so I'd presume so.

Best way to find out is to ring up and ask, or maybe ask on Live Chat (although I expect they'll ask you to ring to discuss upgrades).

If you're worried about losing your MR balance - this is shared between all MR-earning personal cards you hold (regardless of whether they are Credit or Charge products).

Usually yes. Ask to speak to a Brighton based agent rather than a USA based agent as the USA team don’t seem to know the process for product changes.

Worth noting that this *should* be the case, but they're not always linked (sometimes you end up with separate MR accounts) - check this with Amex before you close any, otherwise you may end up with a nasty surprise after 30 days.

I think you now need to apply for the other card first and swap after.

I had the BA platinum & was told I couldn’t swap I had to apply for a second account first then swap when it was received.
