Redundancy Consultation and Notice Peroid.

Options
Was wondering when will my 3 month notice peroid begins. They will not ask me to work the notice, was informed about possibly redunancies late Wednesday, told this morning it will be me.Have the first consultation meeting with them on Monday afternoon.
My question is,does the notice peroid start after all the consultations have ended,or did it start on Wednesday.
I should point out their has been no written corrospondence to say the notice peroid has now commenced.
As there are currently no jobs out there for me at present,it would be benifical for me to drag this out for as long as possible if the notice does not begin till later.

Starts once your contract is given notice of being terminated. Which maybe at the meeting.

the consultation period can be within the notice period.  but they can add the two months consultation period to the notice period if they feel generous.
  • The notice period begins when the company informs you that your employment will be terminating and when.  Consultation is to explore ways of avoiding redundancy so notice should not be served prior to consultation.  Unless more than 20 employees in one establishment are being made redundant there is no minimum consultation period.
  • Consultation comes before as technically that is the time to look at alternatives to redundancy if there are any. They should not be giving you notice at the first meeting. They should at least take on board any comments from you before making a decision or explaining the process.
