Switching failure query

Hi,

I recently put in for a switch to a different energy provider - unfortunately only electricity was switched. When I contacted the company, they said the gas switch had failed due to an objection from the other supplier. I contacted the old supplier, who said they couldn't see a reason for the failure, and said to get the new supplier to retry.

Eventually my gas was switched, 18 days after it should have been - though there were other issues unfortunately. I asked about the £30 automatic compensation, and the new supplier said that it wasn't down to them as the old company objected so the switch failed, and that I should be making the complaint to the previous supplier for possible compensation. Is this correct? I can see them just blaming each other.
