Building completion certificate

I’m due to exchange on Tuesday and today the buyers solicitor has requested the building completion certificate
my property is 14 years old and I’ve had it since new with no changes the nhbc certificate has expired and I don’t have a copy of the other certificate
is it normal to ask for this and obviously not mortgage company asking at this late stage .

Only way to get a copy is from local council it will take 3 weeks and cost £75
my solicitor says she will ask them to accept assurances we will apply for this and send it on
I don’t see why they want it at this late stage and why I should pay when not required by mortgage company
any help greatly appreciated

You could stand your ground, and say "Nope, don't have it, you can get it from the council yourself."
But... £75. Do you want to hack your buyer off over something so minor?0 -
Tell them you'll action this right away - you are a helpful fellow after all - but you can add (if you wish...) that you won't accept it as a legitimate reason for delay on exchange; this still goes ahead on Tuesday or they can f'off.
Or you might not say that.0 -
I don’t think they are saying it could delay sale missives have been concluded so doubt they will stop it
it’s just I’ve not heard about having to boo produce this and I wasn’t asked when I sold my last house and my neighbors who moved recently weren’t asked either0 -
If you've concluded missives and those don't require you to produce a copy of the completion certificate (?) then what's the problem? It wouldn't have got nhbc cover without being signed off anyway.0
