Good result and I'm not surprised.

The average sky engineer is probably a 'man with a van' who did a 1 week/2 week course a few years ago and just have on-the-job experience post that. Whilst they are (usually) perfectly capable of screwing a dish to a wall and running a few cables; when they are presented with a structured wiring cupboard they probably have little more clue than the average joe bloggs on the street. A 'proper' engineer should have technical/electronic training AND be used to working in those environments regularly.
  • UPDATE
Sky engineer traced and came back to fix the fault, spent 2 hours trying to put right what he had done but failed. Somebody else from Sky came out next day and tried to fathom it out but failed and blamed the dish maybe out of alignment due to the bad winds we had had and he left saying call the management of the block.
The guys that do all the work for the maintenance side of all things satellite and installations for all  the flats in the area came out and it took them 5 mins to spot what Sky couldn't and reconnected the offending cables in the right order.  Stating that they are always having to clear up after Sky have been involved with communal cupboards.
    Believe in better?    Mmmm
That means the Sky technician (they won't be an engineer, you'd be paying a good deal more if they actually sent out chartered engineers out to do installs) didn't know what a multiswitch is or what to do when they meet one.  Chances are they probably don't even know how the LNB on the dish and the satellite box manage channel selection between them, they've just been trained to erect a minidish and run cable for it and have neither the knowledge nor skill to deal with anything non-standard.
