Do you have to declare 'bus stop fine' to insurers?

Hi again. If you receive a PCN (ref. 47J) for parking in a bus stop area, will that have to be declared to insurers? Or when it comes to renewing your insurance?

I know for speeding offences you do, but what about that bus stop parking?

Thanks.

No.  Only if you get penalty points on your licence.

Not quite. A typical question (GoCompare) is "In the last five years have you received any motoring convictions, driving licence endorsements or fixed penalties ...".  There are motoring offences which do not incur points (e.g. MOT, seat belts) but which have to be declared.
But the OP hasn't been convicted of anything.

Though if you tick yes, the next question asks you for the endorsement code and doesn't include an option for a non-endorseable offence. I think it's reasonable to interpret the question as referring only to endorseable offences if the proposal form makes it impossible to declare non-endorseable ones.

Reasonable in GoCompare's case maybe, but not to generalise to all insurers. In any event, if you took up a quote from GoCompare you'd have to respond to the actual insurer's questions or confirm their assumptions, where the wording might be subtly different.

Do you really think they mean you were given a ticket for no seatbelt whist being a passenger in a vehicle? I doubt you would declare that.

True, but I've never seen an insurer who didn't have a similar drop down menu with a similar list of options n their website - have you? I think the reality is that in practice all or almost all insurers are only interested in endorseable motoring offences.

(Also if their wording was only subtly different from the comparison site they would have difficulty cancelling any policy. The Ombudsman has tended to take the view that if insurers choose to sell through comparison sites or other intermediaries, they are responsible for ensuring that the questions asked by the comparison site accurately reflect their own. At the very least, differences in assumptions etc would have to be clearly highlighted.)

    No
Insurers are only interested in criminal convictions as a bus lane ticket is decriminalised they wont give two hoots

Let me put it another way - if you get a parking ticket from the council do you think you have to declare that too?
