PPI Payout

I put a ppi claim in to Bank of Scotland on the claim deadline day. It was ppi on a loan I took out 24 years ago. Because of the length of time that had passed I had little supporting evidence but I knew I paid ppi on the account. Bank of Scotland confirmed that ppi was paid on the account but only paid me half of the redress. They said the account was a joint account and that the other half of the money was due to the other account holder. I know that my name was the only name on the statements and I know that I paid all the repayments on the loan and all the ppi. I think the likelihood is that they needed me to effectively have a guarantor when I took out the loan, as I was a young man at the time with little credit history, thus if there was a second signature on the application it is most likely my father's, but he passed away in 2002. They will not tell me or even confirm anything about the joint applicant due to data protection and have told me to supply any evidence that it was not actually a joint account for them to review (which I cannot do as I have not kept statements from over 20 years ago). It is a bit annoying as I am really due the other half of the money but I am out of ideas on how to access it and it feels like I am at the end of the road. Does anybody have any brilliant ideas?
