Is this right? And is it legal?

I have been on furlough since March and recently went through a redundancy process with my employer where I had to re-apply for my job as they had to reduce numbers.  I was then told in a video call and by formal email letter that I had been successful and would be expected to return to work for 12 hours a week (ihad always been part-time) from a specific date in August.  All was fine and I returned to work to be ‘reminded’ by my manager that apparently I was covering sick leave and holidays for 4 weeks and then I would be put back on furlough.  I was really shocked, I applied for a position they said they had and I was expecting my 12 hours a week work and pay from here on.  Obviously I don’t get full pay on furlough.  I am confused and a bit upset, trying to get my head round this after surviving the redundancy and thinking I had a job but now not sure how I stand.  Is this just the new norm at the moment and do I just need to try and ride the storm or am I being treated unfairly?  I had a major heart incident in February and if I was going to stay on furlough, I would rather not have gone back for just a few weeks and potentially put myself at risk again.

Seems ok. You've secured a job and have mixture of work and furlough.

    You're doing ok.

Would you have preferred to have been made redundant?  Every organisation will be attempting to adjust to the new norm. As best it can. Recovery is going to be a long slow drawn out process. Companies will use the furlough scheme to manage this. If you feel it's unfair there's nothing to stop you seeking suitable employment elsewhere.

Don't see why not. It is the same employment and you'd be furloughed before the 10 June cut-off so you can be furloughed again. The job will still be there when things pick up.

Thanks Barny and sorry, I’ve only just seen this.  I had to re-apply for a 12 hour contract and I was then offered this role and have the paperwork confirming that I have a 12 hour per week permanent contract.

Presumably they will ask you to work your 12 hours a week.

It depends on what your employer does.
They could go pay you to work, or go through another round of redundancies, or unfairly dismiss you.
Same as if covid had never happened.
