Cancelling Green Flag
Options
I have an annual policy with Green Flag which renews on 6 September. I don't need the policy because I have cover with my new car. I tried phoning them but found it impossible to get through. There are no online options for cancelling.
Can I simply cancel my direct debit?

You must contact them first, try the new members line they may put you through. You sometimes need to get creative with these companies.
If push comes to shove send an email with FAO Cancellations (or similar)0 -

Yes, most co's are using the Covid as an excuse to take longer to get through.
Phone again. Everyone is having to wait on the phone for longer periods we have found out.
Email them. Try to phone again or go through to the breakdown desk and you may come across some very nice person that may help you out.
What we do is never go on a auto renewal for anyhting - A couple of years ago ??? secuirty someone told us we had to go on auto renew we said no then the advisor told us how to go into our account and just delte the card details we did, took his name, date time of call and noted that and was ko on renewal.
Always best to negotiate a new deal as often cheaper unless you are forgetful then auto renew helps but you need funds in ones account
Let us know how you got on0 -

When asked why I was cancelling, I said because I do not like auto-renew. I may go with someone else next time. Many companies seem to not want to hear from their customers.

As per above, try the Sales line. (I did that once when the Renewals/Cancellation line wasn't being answered by the AA). They put me through internally to someone with authority to offer competitive renewal deals. Eventually though the AA stopped even trying - that's when I left them. (I have a company car now so don't need a breakdown/recovery contract, and my wife has RAC cover included with her new car purchase last year). Perhaps the same tactic (Sales line) may work with GF.0

I've had success in the past by messaging direct line group via Facebook and they've stopped the auto renewal, might be worth a go.0
