Cost of new fanbelt??
Hi all.. can anyone tell me how much a new fan belt would cost?? I have just been to the garage and the mechanic said because the car is a Peugeot it needs a special belt as they do not use the tightening ones.. it will take 1/2 a days work to change???? Anyone know what this will cost - forgot to ask when I was there.... Thanks as always!

Go to another garage!!
Shouldnt cost more than a fiver. But yes, fan belt on some Pugs is a pain to get too! But even so...0 -
I would be very surprised if it is actually a half days work to change a fan belt - more like half an hour on most cars. Even if the fan belt is a bit strange I would have thought it should cast more than £10 - I suggest you phone your local motor factors and ask how much the part should be - alternativly you could try the parts department at the Peugoet dealer.0

It would help enormously if you said what the car was.
It must be an old car to have a fan belt.0 -

Surely the OP is talking about the cambelt?0

It does sound as if they mean the timing belt/cam belt.
maybe crossed wire here....work permit granted!0 -
It would help if the OP gave the reason she? went to the garage in the first place, and why the garage thinks it needs a new belt.0

It's a 1 or 2 hour job tops. Shouldn't cost any more than £100-150 tops. There's nothing special about Peugeots. Even a main dealer would only charge you £150-200 tops.
Yes but cars still have a "Fan Belt" but it is known as the Auxillary Drive belt now. It drives things such as the alternator, water pump, air con compressor, power steering pump etc. The term fan belt is a left over from days of old when the same belt drove the fan aswell - its still a term that is used though.0
