I'm considering a cahsless/cardless payment option on my phone. I've had a look around the MSE site and can't see any information about the different options. Is it there anywhere? What are the preferred options? I have an iphone so Apple Pay is a possibility but I would like to explore other options. Please can anyone help?

Are you talking about paying using your phone, or receiving payments?
For the latter some local businesses near me use SumUp.
For the former I simply use Google Pay. (Apple provide the same thing for their devices as you note). Any payment by phone mechanism requires the phone to support NFC - Near Field Communications. Check also your bank - they may offer an option for phone pay. (e.g. the Barclaycard app provides this feature).0 -
It's a complete and utter mess at the moment. Apple Pay and Google Pay are the main ones but Samsung have Samsung Pay for their phones and then you also get card providers who get fussy. If your card is a Barclays one you can't add it to any of the above as Barclays no doubt refuse to give Apple/Google etc any commission and you have to use the Barclays mobile app instead. I suspect other banks/card providers may also be the same.

I assume you can use a Curve card to get around the Barclays (and other cards) restriction fairly easily, on both Samsung Pay and Google Pay - in fact Samsung have released their own version of the Curve card now (presumably for exactly the reason outlined)0

I’ve Apple Pay, it’s good, makes my basic chip and pin card contactless. Sometimes the fingerprint bit can be temperamental (not the phone's fault, works on everything else). Not sure about the android equivalent.0
