O/S Daily Friday 28 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast and misty start to the day with rain forecast later.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 also gone to work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, mash, peas and gravy. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
Yesterday I got done some jobs that needed to be done. I'll be heading to the SM early to get that done and out of the way. I also have some other jobs to do so will try to get those done too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Yesterday it rained, then it rained some more. Hopefully today will be better.
I went to visit a friend after work who fell and broke her hip 6 weeks ago, she is truly amazing, walking just about normally, no stick and is talking about driving again very soon. We had a good catch up over a cup of tea and generally put the world to rights!
Friday again, must go to the allotment later as I haven't picked beans for a few days as it's been too wet, I'll also check for the pesky courgettes.
Hugs to those in need, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels right back-endish this morning. Cooler, dismal and damp. Just for a change rain is forecast all day! Yesterday, although it looked threatening most of the day, the rain didn't arrive until late afternoon. Somehow the washing managed to get dry. I must go out and feed the birdies before the rain arrives. Btw the wood pigeons manage to squash under the roof of my bird table too. Somehow they can now get 3 on together, with another waiting it's turn on the roof. They manage to knock a lot of seed on the floor in the scuffle but the dunnocks make short work of that.
Yorkshire Live had it wrong yesterday telling us the dreaded lockdown announcement was due a day early. It wasn't! So it's due today as normal. Fingers are crossed but doubt that will do much good.
So it's the pleasure (not) of the Friday Tidy today and not much else. I must remember too to update my Tesco order (booked for tomorrow) as I need to add a few more things.
Have a good day folks if you can and take care one and all. Stay safe. x

Morning all,
Thanks for the start mnlc
Up and about early as it's shopping day and we like to get there when it is still quiet. I only go once a fortnight so have a very comprehensive list. The village shop does its best and is useful for top ups but doesn't have facilities for fruit and veg and much else.
Was it you TA who wanted the Mint and Apple jelly recipe? Well, here 'tis.
2lbs cooking apples, roughly cut up. No need to peel and core.
1 pint water, no more.
Simmer until it is all reduced to a pulp.
Strain through muslin, old tea towel, pillow case or proper jelly bag. Be careful not to squeeze or it will be cloudy. I let it drip over night.
Measure the juice and to each pint of juice add 1lb sugar.
Boil until setting point is reached.
Finely chop mint, about 1 tablespoonful per pint of juice
Add with 1 tablespoon of white malt vinegar.
Boil for 1 more minute and pour into hot jars.
I've only recently acquired a jelly bag and some sort of plastic contraption to hold it over a bowl. For years I've used an upside-down kitchen stool and an old pillow case tied to the legs. A bit Heath-Robinsonish but worked perfectly well.
I'd better eat some breakfast or I'll be fainting all over T*sc*s floor.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Have trouble remembering how to fly.16 -
Good morning folks. After a fairly miserable day yesterday today looks set to be drier at least. I went out when the cleaner was here, tried to visit a local community hub in a spot by the canal but again no luck. While most shops are open I really want to go somewhere that isn't a shop or cafe.DM had a wobbly day and was feeling unusually cold yesterday. Her circulation is deteriorating as her heart continues to slowly fail. Her feet and ankles are always blue'ish so I keep a hot water bottle near them. She has an electric blanket on her bed but doesn't normally need heat everywhere. This morning I'm heading across to the South Side for a dental scan of my mouth / teeth / jaw. I'm contemplating some treatment which needs the scan, could be interesting. My fingers are crossed for you TA.
Now it's time to make serious efforts to start my day. I wish everyone a happy Friday.13 -
Good morning, the weather is terrible as usual, hope there's some respite soon.I bought my towels from As*a yesterday, had a sandwich lunch in Tasco, and I bought something in TKmexx, but can't now remember what it was, yes I can, it was a fleece throw. The shops were busy, but we 're all used to dodging each other now.Today I'll just be doing house stuff, and will organise a few clothes for going away, first I will check next week's forecast. One thing that always goes is my waterproof coat. That recipe sounds nice Monna.Have a good day all, and take care15

Morning all! I think it's not raining but that's quite unusual so I have to keep looking to check. Not our cats sister decided to stay for the last two nights so her owner must be away, she only does that rarely, much to not our cats disgust. And it just hammered down all afternoon and night...It's been quite chilly here too so the 3 tog duvet went back on the bed.I won my two purchases on ebay so off to pick those up soon and the bloke did come for the other thing so that sale will pay for the two items I won along with a bit extra. I might try and find a local wood reclaim yard today, I do like a bit of recycling.Other than that I'm doing not a lot, although there's the potential for a beef stew, there are some carrots in the fridge that have been there for weeks to use up or I have some short rib of beef to cook, but I'm not sure they'll defrost in time.Ooooo, the neighbours across the road appear to be having a visit from the police...I'm so nosey...they haven't got a hope of having the door answered because he's out and she's probably asleep. So with that excitement over, hope you all have a good day if you can, live long and propser on felicitous Friday....Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...14

Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Steve moved the boat and I moved the car yesterday, lots of walking as I drove to the swing bridges, parked, walked back to the lock, locked the boat through, walked back, opened the bridge. Then drove to the next bridge to rinse and repeat.
Steve's having a lie in, I've fed and walked the dogs. DD1 isn't well so I'm taking some milk and bread over too her.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
