Money Transfer MBNA

Options
I booked a holiday for a group of friends and myself, paid for using my card. We have had to cancel the holiday and payments have been made back to my card, however we are not booking another holiday in the foreseeable, and my friends are wanting their money back. Do you think I will be able to get this back without incurring a fee from MBNA it should be 5% and as I am asking for £3k it is a sizeable chunk! I havent asked them yet, too late to phone in after work. For other info, I had about £3250 on the card before these transactions were paid back.
Thanks for any help :-)

If your card isn’t in credit then you are dependent on goodwill. Apparently some companies have been willing to transfer refunds to a bank account even though the card isn’t in credit, but I don’t know which ones.

Failing that, my MBNA card usually offers about 3.8% apr for the life of the balance without a fee. That would possibly be a better deal if you can get it than a 5% fee.

You are at their mercy. The refund will go against the debt. (Do not forget to thank your friends for paying it for you :) )
All you can do is explain situation to MBNA and hope they will help you. Or look at a low cost loan which maybe cheaper than a money transfer.

  • OP you owed £3250 on card then received a credit back of £3000 resulting in you only owing £250?
Taking your own share of the holiday if the above is correct I don't see any reason why MBNA would not send the £3000 back to to your account

If your account is in credit then they should do this automatically using your current DD details, if you have any debt, this refund will just pay that off. Though sometimes this can depend on the lender and there's no harm in phoning MBNA and asking.
I've just done it with my holiday with AMEX. I owed £300 and got a refund of £800, leaving me in credit of £500 but I phoned up and they saw the £800 credit and sent it to my bank account
