Do I need to change address for temporary living arrangements?

Hi,
I’m looking to move out in next few weeks renting in a house share. This will hopefully be temporary and around 6 months. It’s the first time I’m moving out from my parents. So my question is do I have to change address at my bank / car insurance / mobile etc. Please advise if I do and if there are any other places I should change address

I wasn’t sure if I need to if it’s temporary.

Thanks for advice really appreciate it

  • 6 months is quite long, I have rented a few houses at 6 months a time and each time I would register to vote, change my bank, and my car details. If you want to build up and keep a good credit rating then it is wise to do so. I don’t know the legalities side of it all. I just kept everything of mine at my current address, but I always agreed to minimum of 6 months tenancies. (Maybe if it’s less than a month I would have thought harder about it).

Yes. I've had to do the same and will do so when I move in a few months again. Your car is not covered unless they have the correct address.
There may well be more but I contacted - bank, PayPal, car insurance, dvla, ebay, TV licence, drivers licence, club card, tax office, doctor.
If your old address is your parents at least you don't have to rush with some things but some are important such as car insurance

Good point, definitely change your car details. That is a requirement if you have a car. I know some people who have left their bank details at their parents, but again it will help with credit rating along with voting. Tv license etc might be covered by the current house share and just contribute.

Insurance NEED to know where the car's kept overnight - it affects the risk, and the premium.

Driving licence and V5C just need to be addresses you can be contacted through in a timely manner.

I kept my bank accounts etc at my parents address for years when I moved houses fairly regular (in fact until I bought my own house!) - never affected credit score (and in fact made it easier to apply for credit etc, as it was the only address to declare!) Didn't have a car at the time - although my driving licence had my parents address too!

So you lived elsewhere and yet didn't ever declare those addresses? Were you on electoral registers there or paying council tax?

You know you're legally required to update your address on your driving licence?

So long as it's still a valid contact address - if the parents aren't themselves moving - then there's no need.

You don't have a credit score. It's a fictitious number that lenders don't see. What you have is a credit history.
