Anyone any tips / thoughts on how to cancel / challenge the email I received tonight regarding my gym membership??
I Received an email from David Lloyd gym tonight informing me they will be restarting my membership on 31st aug and will take my direct debt out on 1st sept. They will add the 5 months I’ve missed on to my membership (meaning my 12 months membership I signed up for has now been extended) That I don’t want. I contacted them before they closed the gym to ask if I can cancel my membership, they asked for 3 months notice then sent an email saying they were officially closed until further notice and wouldn’t be able to make any membership changes and no staff would have access the the systems until further notice.
Would appreciate some thoughts / guidance
thanks

there are two memberships options when you join i think re length.
12 and 3 months, with 3 months and 1 notice respectively. Therefore if you have joined on the 12 month contract, you will need to see out the 12 months + plus any time you did not pay due to closure.0 -
But have the payments been extended? If you had to pay when they were closed and the additional 5 months then I think you have good grounds for complaint against them breaching contract. If you didnt have to pay anything when they were closed probably not. Also have a look on the back of your contract. There will possibly be a paragraph for what happens if the gym has to shut for reasons outside of their control.
