External input - Sony Bravia

This is more of an information for future owners/anyone else had this issue post.

3 weeks ago I purchased a Sony Bravia KD49XG8305BU. Its been 3 weeks of televisual joy.

Fast forward 3 weeks and this morning the screen started glitching, going black but with sound and turning it self off. Thought my BT Box was playing about (it has been, its old) so turned all off at the plug to have a rest and went to work.

Came back early this evening and it's doing the same. I contacted Sony. The ran a factory reset and a test which confirmed there wasn't a software issue and that it must be hardware and they will call tomorrow to arrange for a tech to come out. After that it just went from the Bravia welcome screen, android graphic and then a message saying shutting down. This went on in a continuous cycle.

Whilst sitting in the quiet, I started to use a well known search engine and came across a post on a tech site saying to remove the batteries from any external inputs you may have (amazon, sky, Virgin etc).

I thought "I've got nothing to lose" so did.... Well I don't believe it!!! It only bloody worked. Tested it by putting them back in in different orders and it IS the fire stick remote that was causing the TV to keep shutting down!!! Now, I don't know yet as to whether it's the sticks problem or still the TV so will keep the tech appointment.....

Has anyone else had this??

If not... For people to refer to if they need too!!

Its plausible the USB port on the TV can't provide enough power to the Firestick.  The 4k Firestick is quite power hungry and requires more than the USB port can provide.  Ideally for things like these they should be run off the mains adapter.

Firesticks don't run off the USB port. They plug into the HDMI port and are powered by a mains adapter.

(unless the OP is using an adapter like this, but they didn't mention it)

All 3 of my Firesticks run directly off the USB port on the TVs, no fancy adaptors just an ordinary very short USB cable (2 of which came with my (recalled) Orange power banks - remember them).

You need to run the firestick directly to the wall socket, they are power greedy.
