Itison Voucher Expiry

Bit of a convoluted one here - my wife and I received a restaurant voucher as a gift that was due to expire on 31 March 2020.  We booked a reservation as per the voucher, however, due to an issue with their kitchen our booking was cancelled.  Both of us are shiftworkers and the next available, mutually suitable date for both of us was April which the restaurant were happy to accommodate due to the circumstances not being our fault.

The pandemic and lockdown then happened as of 24 March so our booking was obviously cancelled.  Itison will not extend the voucher as their cut-off date for extending due to lockdown is 1 April (even though restaurants closed before this) and the restaurant are directing us back to Itison to resolve.

Any ideas on consumer rights or where I should be focusing my frustration would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Someone bought you a voucher with an expiry date.  The restaurant kindly extended that but won't do so again.  You don't have any rights because the voucher provider fulfilled their side of the contract and you aren't actually the contract holder anyway, because you received it as a gift.  The restaurant has no obligation to help and in fact, their offer to extend was generous because had the meal happened in April they probably wouldn't have been paid by Itison.

Any frustration should be focussed towards the person who gave you the voucher, but that would probably be churlish.

Edited to add: Was the voucher for that specific restaurant?  In which case, they may have been paid already by Itison, but that still doesn't change the standing of the contract, which is between the person who bought the voucher and Itison.

The problem here is that you were GIVEN a voucher, so as such have no rights.

But... on the other hand, it was the restaurant's fault that you did get to have your meal due to their error, so is rather unfair of them to refuse to re-book it given they were closed on the initial date it was re-booked.

I would push this with the restaurant as it is entirely their fault your voucher is now expired. Keep phoning them, and ask for it to be extended due to their error.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
