Over payment

Options
Me and my partner have just been told by HMRC that they haven't taken my wages into account for the last 12 months even though it was a joint claim. They said we now owe them around £10,000. Do we have to pay all this back even though it was their fault or is there anything we can do about it?

Dis you tell them your earnings for that year? They would have sent you an award notice with all the details on it, surely you received that and seen that your wages weren't taken into account yes?
