Slug pellets outside my home.

Hi all just need a little bit of advice. My neighbour has only in the past couple of days decided to put blue what I presume slug pellets on the public pavement outside my house I think it's him as he's put it on his path too. Having done a little research I've noticed they are banned as they're bad for wildlife along with cats and dogs. What's the best way for clearing it we've heavy rain forecast all day will that help and should I report it to the council?

    They are not banned.
There was a try at banning via EU but that failed, they are not banned in UK but "should *" really only be used under cover where pets etc "should" not have easy access, like a greenhouse

    * Note "should" not "must / shall"

If you're weather is like mine the rain will have sloshed them away by now, or just brush them into gutter & chuck a bucket of water over them, they dissolve, also not wildlife friendly, or sweep them up & have a row with your neighbour :D

Very much doubt council would have any interest whatsoever given they can hardly rouse themselves to bother about abandoned cars, fly tipping and a thousand other things

Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Thanks Farway I'll do just that hopefully the rain will have done my work for me.

The 'organic' ferric sulphate ones are also blue, so your circumstantial evidence is looking even slimmer. Cats and dogs would have needed to eat an awful lot of the 'old' variety to be seriously harmed. Frankly, all the cats I've known would not be that stupid.

I used them seldom and only in desperation when I had a huge garden of veg.
While I tried to net the area some gasping snails and slugs crawled out but neither my dog, the invading cats nor the birds went near them.
I even put some under boards only to find a frog sitting with the slugs and pellets two days later..................
But I wouldn't put them on paths. That's a weird thing to do.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've used both kinds in my polytunnel, which is owned by two cats. The old style pellets stop slugs and snails going further than the edge which is next to a flower border; they don't seem to come in from the other side which is by a path. The new style pellets disappear after a day or two. Assuming they don't self-destruct, I have to conclude something likes eating them, or they dissolve very fast when I'm watering.
The cats say it's not them, so I will have to conduct a more scientific study.....

Never trust what cats say. They will say anything to ensure a constant supply of food.

Yeah, but not just any old food. Those who own me know the difference between Lidl's best  and Prescription Diet!
