in Credit cards
Hi guys... newbie,
I’m currently planning my 2022 wedding, my credit card has a limit of £300 but the deposit on our venue is £500... We’re unable to get wedding insurance due to the current coronavirus restrictions so I was looking to pay our deposit via the credit card for at least SOME protection, when reading what Martin has said he said if we pay the deposit via credit card but rest of the venue in another format we are still covered for the whole amount through the credit card... BUT, what if we were to pay £300 by credit card and £200 via debit/cash... would we still be covered??

I’d just like clarification sorry, thank you!

Yes, read the MSE guidelines on Section 75 - spend even 1p on a card and any purchase £100-£30000 is covered so long as the total is that one item e.g. a wedding costing £2000. That said, don't think S75 is insurance for your wedding, it's a backup so for example, it would help if the provider went bust and for some associated costs e.g. if you had spent for hotel and travel costsmoneysavingexpert. com/reclaim/section75-protect-your-purchases/moneysavingexpert. com/news/2020/06/wedding-cancelled-can-you-get-refund/Remove the space between . and com as I can't post links as a new user1

S75 protection is by no means a replacement for proper insurance - I'd think very carefully about committing to anything in the current climate.
But for more info on S75, see here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/section75-protect-your-purchases/0 -

I was not intending to use the card as insurance I just NEED to use it because at the moment we CANNOT GET insurance through no fault of our own - sadly wedding insurances are not being offered due to the Rona.
I just need to use it to at least get some sort of protection!Thank you for helping! X0 -

a: We get a vaccine out
b: we all get back to normal and just bite the bullet that most of us will have to catch this disease.
we cant keep going on like this. to be concerned about covid impacting events in 2022 should not be a thing. it CANT be a thing.0 -

Even if a vaccine is developed by the end of the year and a mass programme is started that is going to be far too late to save many companies like caterers. Ordinarily booking a small company 18 months out is a bit of a risk but now its likely to be further out and in uncertain economic times. You could say to book the venue to lock in on a date and book the other things closer to the time with whoever happens to have survived but weddings are rarely so practical0
