Hi I booked a hotel for 7 days in Puerto Pollensa, Majorca and due to check in on the 1st September 2020. Due to Covid 19 and the current restrictions I'm not wanting to go there anymore. I have paid in full (£1234) and have requested a credit note to book another holiday im greece with the same company for the same week. However they are now saying that as it is so close to the departure date that I would be only due back £124 due to a 90% cancellation fees. I left it as late as possible as I was hoping that the situation would change or the hotel or government would make my decision for me. Can they do this and what should I do.

  • Yes they can do this if you have paid for a non refundable booking. If you chose the refundable booking then you are entitled to that. If you chose non refundable then If the hotel is open you are entitled to nothing. If the hotel is closed you are entitled to a refund. As it stands from your post it appears they are open so your are not entitled to anything.

Sadly agree with the reply posted.

Your other recourse may be a claim via your travel insurance as you are unable to travel to Mallorca (presumably, although some flights still operating). Travel insurance will however be unlikely to pay out for just disinclination to travel.

Alpharooms have done no wrong if they are following in line with booking conditions and your rate plan.  The Hotel, if open, are holding your room for you and appear also to have also done no wrong.  Any changes from either would purely be on goodwill. Sadly goodwill and money in the travel industry is running out.

No automatic right to change or receive a refund on a non-refundable rate.

  • Yes i thought that was the case, thank you for your replies. I will contact the hotel to double check they are open.
