That said I don’t wanna cancel the mattress!
If you don't wanna, I can't see that you gotta.

I guess it just sticks in my throat that we weren’t made aware of the 20% thing.

I would guess in a normal year they wouldnt charge it.  But all these shops have been closed for months and are skint and therefore someone at Head Office has probably decided to start enforcing it to get a bit of cash in.
  • Why the snobbery at someone spending £3k on a bed and mattress? He can do as he pleases with his money.
This is a forum for money saving and the OP is spending £3k on a bed ...

OP may have a bad back, or have problems sleeping, or a multitude of other reasons why a £2K mattress is needed. A good nights sleep is essential for you to function properly throughout the day and, if I thought a £10K mattress would guarantee that, I'd be down to the shop tomorrow.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Exactly. Nerox if you want to spend £50 on a crappy bed from Daves Discount Furniture Shack and then pick up a second hand mattress from Gumtree, you crack on.

Don't knock Dave's discount duvet shack, what has he ever done to you?

The reason for finance is 0%, otherwise I just would have paid upfront. The reason to spend 2k on a mattress is sleep issues but to be honest, there’s lots of other things I don’t spend my money on. The ability to sleep has a knock on effect on all other parts of life, to me it’s worth the investment.

MSE Top Tip (sponsored by Nerox): simply don't bother with a bed, just use a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor.  o:)

Better still, sleep on the street in the gutter, then you won't need to pay for a house either.

Did you ask how much the bed and mattress would be if you paid up front?
My previous experience when buying sofas was that a discount was available. That's because the retailer has to pay a fee to the finance company.
