Vouchers expired during Covid19

As a gift when leaving my job of the last ten years for a new opportunity I was gifted a very generous gift voucher of £250 for a local Spa Hotel that I was infamous for enjoying weekend escapes to eat and soak in the HotTub at. The voucher was only valid for 6 months and with Covid19 I was unable to use the voucher as I fell into the vulnerable category during lockdown and even when that period ended the Spa hadn't reopened yet. This means the voucher is a month out of date but I had no opportunity to use the darn thing. Do I have any hope of this hotel honoring the voucher? Any rights to appeal their expiration date due to the Covid19 pandemic shutting them down for a most of the period when I could have used the voucher? I am going to politely e-mail them to ask for the voucher to be extended due to the circumstances which prevented its use, but I just want to know if I have any plan B rights or options to fall back on. I have been hearing some horror stories of people being point blank refused any leeway with high value gift cards for the hospitality sector as they try to recoup losses from covid.
Thoughts?

How long were the spa actually closed for? You would probably have had a better chance if you had emailed them before the voucher expired.
