O/S Daily Monday 24 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Clear sky, dry underfoot but air feels cool.
DH up and getting ready for work as is DS1. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, was very nice, there's some LO's which will became tonight's dinner - I'll do some extra veg and gravy.
Back to work today - be interesting to see what's happening, as we're supposed to be using some new technology - I, like most, cannot remember how to use it - so that makes for interesting day! We were "trained" to use it via a telephone training session. We'll see how that goes!
Yesterday we had lunch, then chilled for the afternoon. I did get some planning done, so have an idea of what we're eating this week.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC - hope your day goes ok with the new technology. It seems to have rained heavily here, I think the forecast is for "autumnal" weather,We had a great time yesterday at Dil's brother's house at their dad's birthday do,unfortunately the bbq couldn't go ahead because of the rain, but we still enjoyed the afternoon. We didn't need anything to eat when we got home at about 7pm, so we just flopped in front of the telly.Today we need to tidy up a bit, and there's washing to do, Ever the optimist, I was hoping for a good drying day but that's not going to happen, so it'll be draped over the airer on the landing.Sorry to hear you've been a bit down Dumpling, hope you've got things sorted out.Hope everyone has a good Monday, take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I hope today is uneventful and all goes smoothly. The breeze is still with us but, hey, no rain forecast! Tomorrow sounds a different story though!
Well I finally got round to sorting through more boxes of my DM's stuff yesterday afternoon .She had delft racks all round her lounge, dining room, hall and landing. Yesterday's boxes contained all the stuff that was on them! I have split it into 3 boxes - one is full of ginger jars, another decorative plates and the other jugs etc. I have put a couple of the ginger jars in my dresser cabinet but I haven't anywhere to display anything else so no idea what I am going to do with it all. From watching Bargain Hunt, Flog It etc I know pottery items are all but worthless so it's not worth the effort of trying to sell them all. Some of the plates especially are lovely so it's such a shame. Once DD is back from the 'van I may get her on the case again and see if she can shift them as she did with the glassware. Otherwise they will just stay here until the charity shops resume accepting donations again. There is still one more box but that contains my DM and Grandma's wedding tea sets (with some pieces missing that came to grief over the years) and I am loathe to part with them.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care and stay safe x

Morning All
It's quite autumnul this morning, the rain doesn't look far away.
Had a lovely lunch with DD & Co yesterday, Sophie did her usual throwing food all over the place but she was good fun and actually put her arms up for me to lift her so I think she likes me !!
Nothing much else happened but I did do the ironing ready for the week, I'll be glad for winter again when most of my clothes are iron free.
Have a good week ahead, take care. XX14 -
Morning
Well done on the box sorting TA I struggle making decisions on what to do with my stuff so I can imagine anything with sentimental value would be impossible. Theres always that little voice in the head for me that says this may come in useful one day!
Gorgeous blue sky this morning and seemingly nice all day but it is the calm before the storm for the rest of the week.
My cheeky extra delivery arrived all present and correct so I now have some gorgeous sunflowers to enjoy well worth the £4 paid. I won't mention the lemon cake and the baileys that also slipped in the basket least said the better
Food last night was a huge plate of veg that needed using and a load of gravy very nice too. today its pea and ham soup with a baguette and no doubt some cake for aftersQuite a few volunteer calls to make today and a couple of wash loads.
Hope you all have a good day

Good morning everyone
It's very wet here at the moment, the dogs went out for a super fast wee and have come back in before they dissolve. I'm the only one up so I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. Thank you for the advice yesterday, I have taken it all on board and will think hard about the next step.
I made the Dutch apple pie (delicious) and the chicken fajitas but nothing else so today will be another baking day I feel. I will make the sausage rolls in a minute while I have the energy and hopefully Lee will help make some corned beef pasties later on. Honestly, I normally buy all this stuff ready made but I am trying to save money and I know my home made stuff tastes nicer too.
I heard from my sister last night that her husband has just been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. This puts things into perspective too. Hopefully, with treatment he will live a long and productive life so there is that to be thankful for. He had a heart attack a few weeks ago but is recovering well from that and through that treatment they discovered he had a faulty gene which makes him produce too many red blood cells.
The washing needs to be caught up on after the weekend so that will be my priority today. Both dogs are moulting too so the carpet needs to be dehairyfied as it looks pretty grim. I've nearly finished making the second hat for my friend and then I have to start a unicorn and a dress and knicker set for a bear. I have lots to keep me busy today so that's great.
Hope you all have a good day today whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
It is not raining so I have a small load of towels on the line and other stuff chugging round now. I need to clean the cooker this morning and a general kitchen clean, there are loads of other jobs so I might go for a walk to avoid doing them because I am a woman who knows what her priorities are.
If it stays dry, I might cut the grass, not that it desperately needs it but it is much easier to get the leaves up than raking. Not sure that the opportunity will come again this week, looking at the weather forecast.
Dumpling, glad that you feel a bit brighter this morning. I rarely make pastry, mostly it is ok but just occasionally it is not, though I am actually a good baker.
I really think I should get off here now so that the cooker gets done, otherwise I'm going to get distracted.
Will probably pop back later, hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all Thank you for your kind words thoughts and messages on Friday it meant a lot I am still coming to terms with things so i am on a bit of an emotional roller coaster still but i am sure it will flatten out soon enough . We had friends round on Saturday to talk about our holiday in November we are supposed to be going to Mauritius as its both of our 30th wedding anniversaries this year but the way things are who knows if we will get there and i had to explain that i might have to cancel last minute but hey that's what insurance is for they fully understood .
Dumpling hugs to you my DD2 is a specialist nursing sister for blood cancers and she has some amazing patients and i know there is lots they can do nowadays .
TA I hope your sorting brought you lots of happy memories of your mum x
Nels I have only just started to really like sun flowers they are such a happy flower

A small shop needs doing today but nothing else of interest is happening, just housework.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all
Raining here again and set in for the day I think with an hours break at 12 so we will get the dogs out quick within that hour. Housework to do this morning and I have a wash on the go it will have to go in the TD though. I think I will do pork fillet for dinner slow cooked on some kind of sauce with rice.
It has been much cooler here in the evenings and mornings the last couple of days last night dd and I sat with blankets over us it really feels like autumn is peeping round the corner, wont be long before we light the log burner and have cosy evenings in.
Right better get on with my day, have good days all xx

Morning all! I've just been to the shop to get some bread [ yes, I have bread flour, no, I haven't made any, I've been a lazy so and so...] Well the weekend was quite busy in socialising terms, BBQ on Saturday and there were a couple of showers but he'd set up a big marquee thing in his garden so not too bad. His food is amazing. He's Brazillian and what he can do with a piece of steak is nobobys business! Drool drool drool. Then another friend is looking after a farm for a week so it was down to there to help feed the cows, pigs and sheep. I did spy some damsons, sloes and blackberries to pick, along with a large amount of horse manure, so I'll ask nicely if I can have some for the beds in a few weeks time....Finally finished levelling the bit outside the back door so today is Italian lesson, laying some weed membrane and carting some sand over to plonk on top for levelling properly. The patio might even be finished by the weekend. Getting more sand involves more riddling though....And someone is ocming this morning hopefully to purchase something else I had to sell. Huzzah! And I have a new book by a favourite author so I won't be bored. I'm trying to eke it out a bit because it only takes me a couple of hours to read a book usually.Winter is most definitely coming though and it'll be time to concentrate on the inside of the house before long which is looking a bit tip-y....But that means ordering some wood and sorting out the old wood from last year. There are a few big pieces which need splitting but the splitting log is currently holding a big pot with a courgette in it so it will have to wait...Dumpling, make another ID, speak to Steve, do an SOA to get help on the board. If someone can help you, let them
Nelski, I love a Baileys, trouble is, it's very very easy to drink with ice and a bottle might only last me one night. And I love a sunflower, so cheery. Nice to see you Hester, another one who thinks boating is hard work...Good luck sorting through stuff TA...Nanny, when I used to go to a friends house [ pre covid] she always made cheese scones for us, they were lovely! I am dribbling...
Hey all reading along, hope you're all at peace with the world and aliveMundane Monday ahead!
