Best place to buy Sofa

  • One place I don't recommend buying from is Amazon.  I got both my sofas from Amazon (in my defence, it was during Covid when I couldn't get to furniture shops, and I needed something for people to sit on in the run up to Christmas).

The advantages were that I had a delivery time of only a few days and the sofas are, to be fair, gorgeous, green velvet chesterfield style sofas and were delivered right into my living room.  The downside: one of the two had obviously been used before and had a button popped out.

As the sofas were supplied by Amazon, there was no option of contacting the seller to arrange a replacement.  The only thing I could do was to get both the sofas boxed up again and taken away.  Then I could try buying them again once the refund had come through.   So, I'm stuck with a damaged sofa and no redress.  I couldn't even leave a review of the sofas because Amazon kept saying the review was against guidelines and then blocked me from leaving another review.

I wouldn’t recommend SCS. We bought a suite from there and within 5-6 months the cushions were flat, it creaked and squeaked. It had also not had much wear as we are out at work most of the time and no kids/pets. Tried to get SCS to look at it as apparently we had a warranty but they wanted a £95 “inspection charge” to then tell me it was normal wear and tear.
    Complete waste of money.

We ended up replacing it with some DFS cheap sofas as they were so awful and the cheap DFS ones have so far been so much better than the more expensive ones I bought from SCS.

Anyone had any experience with Furniture Village? I see them very much as another DFS / SCS - correct me if I'm wrong?

I think I'll be sticking with either JL or Dansk.

I was in the same boat recently and looked at a few UK brands. One that stood out was Darlings of Chelsea – loads of fabric and size options, but longer lead times since they’re made-to-order. I found this guide really useful as it answered all the practical questions I had: Your Essential Guide to Shopping at Darlings of Chelsea: Top 10 Questions Answered

I have had sofas for 2 houses from Sofasofa. Online.Very reasonable prices, fast delivery and several loose-covered styles, so you can ring the changes. Covers are machine-washable and plenty of choices of fabric and colour.
The frames are wood, not mdf. Very comfy and solidly made. I had the first sofabed and chairs for 19 years and went for the same one for a holiday cottage. You can buy replacement foam inserts for all the cushions.

I like IKEA , they are reasonably priced too

We spent about £1200 on an Ikea sofa bed. It creaks, thr cushions are just foam so lose their shape in no time and worse of all, they constantly slide forwards.

Oh, and it took bloody ages to assemble.  Will stick to DFS or similar next time.

We always buy from Fishpools in Waltham Cross, we like seeing the furniture IRL first, but they do have a website. Great customer service.

My parents used to buy everything from them!!

I went down with Mum fairly recently and their style has definitely changed over the decades (and Mum's hasn't!!). But yes, a great shop.
