Amex refund protection - anyone used it?

in Credit cards
I was recently looking at getting the Amex BA Premium Plus card and noticed some of the additional features you get with Amex including the refund protection and purchase protection. The refund protection got me thinking whether anyone has actually successfully used this service before? From what I understand, it enables you to get a refund on items purchased from UK retailers which are outside of the usual returns period. I am intrigued, then, to know what you do with the physical item once Amex refunds you... do you send it back to them? If so, do they donate it? Do they trust you to dispose of it?

You also get the usual section 75 and chargeback cover as well since it’s a credit card not a charge card. The purchase and refund protection is aimed more at the chargecards that don’t offer S.75 or CB.
