A Canadian national relative was sold a ticket from Calgary to London by BA. Bereavement visit. It necessitated an American Airlines flight to Dallas and another AA flight to Heathrow. Both on BA flight codes but operated by AA.
he attempted to return today and was allowed to check in ok to the Dallas flight again
operated by AA but was stopped in the departure lounge And told he would not be allowed to board as he was a Covid risk due to having being the uk which was determined as a risk country. So it would appear transit was not allowed.

BA have managed to get him on a direct flight to Toronto this evening and then an onward flight tomorrow .
Just a warning to people thinking about doing this.

Problem there is the fact you have to leave the airside part of the airport in the US to go from an international flight to a domestic one. Changing in the States was the error, BA should have known this.0

Admission and Transit Restrictions:
Passengers who have transited or have been in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland or in the United Kingdom (excluding overseas territories outside of Europe), in the past 14 days are not allowed to enter and transit.

It is always the passenger's responsibility to ensure they have the right and the correct paperwork to enter a country, for both final destination, and any transit stops enroute.
Well done to BA/AA for helping with an alternative.0 -
Makes no sense. Only the land border is closed, Canadian residents and immediate family can fly into and back from the US. Doesn’t change the fact you have to quarantine in Canada for 14 days on arrival though.0

Ah! Sorry, was return leg. My mistake ignore above0

My post was intended as a warning , I agree it is the passengers responsibility but there was no warnings on the ba screen apart from warning of quarantine requirements at either end. I was surprised that he was allowed to check in, he had to rearrange the return flight 3 times and was given no warning in discussions with the call centre at any time. But given the fluid situation then the staff may not be up to speed. After 6 weeks of dealing with his parents passing all he wanted was to go home.0
