Would my bank be able to do a chargeback?

Today I paid £15 for an item in a shop but for whatever reason the contactless wasn't working properly and I had to scan it 3 times. When I got home though and checked my online bank, the transaction was showing 3 times as pending. I went back to the shop and they told me to stop the 2 incorrect pending payments with my bank, and I contacted Lloyds who advised they can put the funds back into my available balance but the payments can still go through. If that's the case, would Lloyds be able to do a chargeback? I'm concerned because I didn't take a receipt at the time from the shop as I never expected this to happen, and I'm worried they might get funny when it comes to refunding it.

A receipt wouldn't help you in this instance because it would only verify that the first transaction was authorised, but wouldn't prove or disprove anything about the other two.
It's entirely possible that only one of those transactions will ultimately be debited, but if they all are, presumably they will be timestamped within seconds of each other and the error will be clear.

So it gave a declined message the 1st to times?
A chargeback could be done, but odd's on will not be needed.

Just to be clear. A chargeback can not be done till they actually debit. Which they have not yet.

  • OP hold on here for a minute - IMO the 2 pending transactions not needed will drop off in about a week or so. No need to do anything unless they are actually debited to your account.
