I'm celebrating my 60th next August and one idea I've had is to rent a property for 2nights that the family can get together and share the celebration....I live in Lancashire, so want something northern and can accommodation 20 adults and 4 children.

I'd be looking at a stately house rental, but if we are back to normal they might be booked for weddings.

Both Peak District so whilst not proper north they shouldn't be too far.
You basically get your own pub so they can put barrels on the taps so you can pour own pints etc, and the kitchens are bigger to cope with numbers. Not sure about any current Covid restrictions though.

I'm sure your party will be a well controlled and charming affair, but I shouldn't mention the phrase 'party house' to the owners of any prospective places.  They will imagine a hundred wild teenagers leaving their treasured house as a smouldering ruin..

Holiday cottage companies are usually reluctant to rent out properties in peak season (such as August) for anything less than 7 nights.
AirBnB may be your best place to look (or similar owner-run sites)

Having said that AirBnB won't allow more than 16 people in a property. You could look for properties on a complex so the party is split into two or more ...
