P45 not received from previous employer

I've left my old job just after the lockdown started. Everything was amicable and I was even given a parting gift on my last day. The office was locked down for most employees except for skeleton crew of essential staff at that time.
Anyway it's been nearly 4 months after I've started my new job and I still haven't received my P45 from previous employer. I've passed probation with new employer and they haven't asked for my P45 as well.
Is there anything I need to do on my end?

You don't need a p45, your new employer can give you a starter checklist from instead. If you want it then you need to contact your old employer, they've probably just missed it amongst the covid disruption.1

When the system works which it usually does HMRC will send your tax code, pay, and tax details to your new employer. Best way to check if they have done this yet is to look on your last payslip at the taxable gross to date and tax paid to date figures; if all is in order these figures will include your earnings and tax paid in your last job. There are usually two sets of year to date figures one for just this employment and another for totals for the year it's the totals for the year you need to check.
EDIT As TadleyBaggie says if left last tax year then there will be no previous gross unless any unemployment benefit received. Did you fill in a starter checklist if so which did you select A First job since 6 April B Since 6 April had another job or C pension or have another job0 -
When did you leave the previous employer? if it was still in the 2019-20 tax year a P45 wouldn't be relevant to the current tax year.3

Thanks all for the replies. I left my previous employers on the 17th of April.
I did chek my new payslips and the tax calculations looks correct. I did fill in a starter checklist with HR at my current place but it was rather basic. I wasn't asked for P45/P60s, bank statements etc. Just some basic information and documentation to prove I am who I am.
Reason I've asked is that I've had P45s issues on my last day when I left my other jobs but that was quite some time ago. To be honest I don't really need it now, just wanted to check if I didn't forget something important.0 -
Checking the tax figure will not necessarily tell you if your P45 details have been added to your new employer records. You need to look at the pay and tax to date details (not those for this employment) on your payslip to see if those figures include earnings and tax details for this tax year from your old employer.anxious_ant said:Thanks all for the replies. Looking at my first payslip in April for current employer it doesn't include any tax details from previous employment. I will enquire this with my previous employers.chrisbur said:

On hindsight I should've noticed this earlier... never had this issue before.
I thought HMRC now has monthly updates regarding PAYE, so this is a bit strange.0 -
That's what I thought as well, that HMRC should have monthly PAYE updates now.chrisbur said:When the system works which it usually does HMRC will send your tax code, pay, and tax details to your new employer. I left in 18th April so would've thought this is the start of curent FY.
Payslips from current employer only include tax from them, the "Tax from previous employment" section is blank and YTD tax equals how much I was taxed in this employment so something's not right.0 -
Thanks. I think I did a starter form and told them when I left my previous employment however just wondering why my current payslips doesn't show the tax I've paid in April from previous employer?Diamandis said:You don't need a p45, your new employer can give you a starter checklist from instead. If previous pay/tax details not on latest payslip time to contact HMRC to see what the problem is. Might just check with payroll in case they have them ready for next payroll run.1
