Renting Car with Expired DL Covid 19

I have a UK Driver's License which expired on 1.7.20. However there is a 7month extension given to expired DL's by the DVLA due to Covid-19.

My is about renting a car in Portugal in a few weeks time. According to the DVLA website the extension or grace period was granted due to an EU regulation. Will a car rental company at a Portuguese airport give me a car with an expired DL at this time? I'm hoping because it is a EU regulation they will be aware of / recognise the grace period? Or has anyone had success or failure in renting a car in Europe this summer with an expired UK Driver's License?

I guess it all depends on who is dealing with you as everyone has different knowledge and practices.

Why not phone, email them about that and put a deposit down and get confirmation?
