Debt Collectors on credit file

Options
Hi Everyone
I was the victim of identity fraud last year and I have noticed that a debt collector has done a hard search on my credit file to chase debt that I dont owe.  EE have shared my personal data with them and now I have a mark on my file from a debt collector.  Is this search anything that I should be concerned about?  I have emailed the company in question and asked them why they have done a search without my permission. Any ideas how the search can be removed?

  • Nobody looking at your file will see who performed the searches so it's irrelevant that it was a DCA who performed the search.

I'd be tempted to just leave it be as the impact of a hard search is basically 0 after 6 months and it sounds like it's even longer ago than that.  Not worth the faffing around to try and get it removed.
  • No worries, Im only concerned as I am completing on my mortgage in a week
    cheers :)

I thought Debt Collectors couldn’t pull hard search he’s as they aren’t offering credit only soft searches where they can gauge address/affordability .. etc

Thats what I thought.  I have had a reply from the Debt Collectors saying they will ask for the search to be deleted by the relevant credit reference companies however I am not holding my breathe.  These big companies are ruthless and people need to stand up to them

If you’ve got that in writing chase it up if it’s not changed in 1-2 months
